Abstract
The efforts of states, particularly developing countries, to become members of BRICS can be regarded as a form of investment in the process of fundamentally reconsidering the structure of the global economy. The outcomes of such efforts are expected to contribute to advancing and realizing the interests of the international community, particularly those of the Global South. This study seeks to answer the following research question: What are the opportunities and challenges facing Iran as a new member of BRICS within the framework of global governance? It argues that Iran’s membership in BRICS provides the country with an opportunity to participate in the formation of a multilateral global economic architecture; however, it also presents several challenges, including the endogenous challenges of BRICS, vulnerability and limited capacity to respond to U.S. sanction policies, and the impact of the policies of key actors on the environment of multilateral cooperation. Furthermore, the findings of the study indicate that effectively benefiting from these opportunities requires the formulation of strategies consistent with the institutional requirements of BRICS and the dynamics of the emerging global order. This research employs a descriptive–explanatory approach.
